Details for the HL27C

Hull: Solid FRP construction with Ashland MaxGuard gelcoat,four outer laminates of vinylester resin, remainder of lamination using Isothalic polyester resin. Fiberglass reinforcements of conventional CSM and woven rovings to designer's specification. 2mm Coremat above waterline for cosmetic appearance. Standard color white with bootstripe painted with Sikkens polyurethane in choice of red or blue. All visible exposed hull interiors sanded and coated with white polyester flowcoat. Stringers and web frames of either marine grade plywood or polyurethane honeycomb, bonded to hull and deck with CSM and woven rovings.

Deck: Composite construction using polyurethane honeycomb or PVC closed-cell foam and FRP construction. Ashland MaxGuard gelcoat with Isothalic resin used throughout. Quarter-sawn teak cockpit sole and forward and aft decks,applied with Sikaflex adhesive. Hull/Deck joint fastened with mechanical fasteners and 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive or equivalent.

Hull Bottom: Two coats Interlux Interprotect 2000 epoxy barrier and two coats Interlux anti-fouling in either red or blue.

Rudder: Solid FRP with welded stainless steel interior frame and rudderstock. 316L stainless steel rudder shoe with Teflon bearing through-bolted to keel. Rudder hinges and hardware custom fabricated using 316L stainless steel. Solid teak rudder sideplate trim.

Teak Trim: Solid teak seat fiddles, teak cockpit steps, teak steering console dashboard, teak caprail, teak engine box cover. Varnished flagpole. Teak caprail with optional 1-inch solid stainless steel half-round striker plate.

Fuel: Vent line of copper tubing vented overboard. Copper fuel supply and return lines lead to engine box. Supply lines with 55 valve at tank outlet. 50 gallon cacacity with fuel gauge.

Engine Bed: Integral.

Engine: 50 hp Nanni (Kubota). Water lubricated propeller shaft cutlass bearings. 30mm SS propeller shaft inside FRP stern tube with Tides Marine SureSeal, Michigan Wheel peopeller, Vetus Bullflex anti-vibration engine/shaft coupling. Optional engines: 54 hp Yanmar or 55 hp Volvo.

Steering: Hydraulic with console-mounted pump and transom-mounted cylinder.

Electrical: 12V system with console-mounted BEP switch plate with integral circuit breakers. Navigation lights to USCG or international standards. Delphi HD wet-plate battery with FRP base, nylon tie-down straps, and master switch. 500-gph Atwood Sahara bilge pump with mercury float switch.

Hardware: Four cockpit-mounted fender hangers, non-return cockpit drains, six lift-up cleats, step plates, two forward handholds on caprail, aft stern rail, handhold on steering console, flag mount, cast hinges on all seats and open lockers, bow striker plate. Stainless components of 316 or 316L material and fastened with polished 304 or 316 through-bolts.

Features: Lapstrake hulls offer excellent seagoing comfort and exceptional hull strength; teak decks and cockpit sole provide excellent appearance and effective non-skid underfoot. The 27-C incorporates an insulated cooler under the cockpit sole, ample storage under all seats, fresh water cooled efficient diesel engines allow day-long cruising at minimal cost. Hinged engine box allows direct access to engine for scheduled maintenance.
